Is bigger really better?

Is a bigger ship really better, or does it just mean you stand in longer lines? I'm heading aboard the world's largest cruise ship to find out.

When Royal Caribbean's new Freedom of the Seas sets sail today on its inaugural voyage from Miami to Cozumel, Grand Cayman, Jamaica and Haiti, I'll cruise along. You can come too … at least virtually … via the trip reports I'll file here at least twice daily.

Send me your questions and ideas, and I'll let you know whether it's really possible to Hang Ten at sea on the ship's new Flowrider surfing simulator. In my case, probably not … but then, I can't surf anyplace else, either.

Hi Jane, we will be sailing aboard Freedon on June 18th to celebrate our daughter's 15th birthday. I have never been on a cruise before and am a bit concerned about what to expect. I am traveling with my parents. What can we expect? Are the lines very long? should I buy the local excursions through Royal Caribbean, our travel agency or should we wait until we get to the ports. Thanks

Hi my name is christina, I have never been on a cruise before, and I would like to know would you ever be able to go on the activities due to long lines?

Hi Jane,
We will be on the Freedom 10/29/06. This will be our 5th cruise with Royal Caribbean. We will look forward to your comments. We have never experienced long lines on any of their cruises. The service has always been above average. Have a great time!

Hi Jane! Lucky you being on the first big cruise. Here's a challenge for you ... big mystery surrounding the F1 Family Cabins. No pictures on RCCL's website, no floorplans given to any TA's. It's a 350 sq foot "family cabin" usually interior. See if you can get the "scoop" for us on this unique cabin. 2313 is one of them -- try to score some photos! HAVE FUN!!!

Hi, Jane,

I'll be sailing on the Freedom next April (same itinerary). Have a great trip!

I was wondering about internet access and its pricing. Will they "lend" you a laptop, or must you rent it? How much will it set me back to have internet access for one day?

Thanks!

I really am interested in the line situation: both for food and tenders. I have yet to be on a large Royal Caribbean ship, so I am anxious to read your impressions.

HI Jane

We LOVE the Windjammer but heard it was a bit downsized on the Freedom. We are set to sail next April on the ship so we will be checking this site out. We have 5 children in tow. Two if them are younger and will be involved in the kids program so I am hoping its all its cracked up to be. For us, we have takent his cruise Itinerary with Princess and we are all about THE SHIP~!!!

Hi Jane,
We are scheduled to sail on July 2nd on a family cruise to celebrate our daughter's "quince". I am concerned about motion sickness and claustrophobia.. I suffer from both- yikes! But I am doing this for the girls.

How smooth has the sailing been, and any suggestions?
Thanks and have a safe and wonderful trip.

Hello Jane:
I was on the Voyageur of the Seas recently and was not impressed with the quality of food nor with the selections at their buffets. As a seasoned cruiser I found Princess, does a much better job. How does the Freedom compare?
Thanks,
Carla, Toronto

Hi Jane:

Gonna be sailing on the Freedom for my best friend's stag on October 22. We're talking about 8 guys from the West Coast in one suite. Did we make the right choice....is the food up to par....what is the average age on your sailing? Please, do tell....we'd appreciate any input or suggestions! Thank you! :)
